I am Dr. Soccer Mom, Dr. Margareth Pierre-Louis, MD, MBA, FAAD, FASDP. I am a board-certified dermatologist and dermatopathologist in Minneapolis, MN. My son Collin started playing soccer at four years old. One week after his 12th birthday, he won the championship game at the Target USA Cup with an elite Costa Rica boys soccer club. I am so proud of my kid and proud to be his Soccer Mom!

Collin's growth and skill development over those eight years have been astonishing and have taught me so much about dedication and resilience. The parallels between sports, medicine, and life are universal and inspirational. While my son may not have been aware of what was happening to him over eight years, he was building character, mastering skills, and creating a commitment to his life that any child or adult can be proud of.

In 2023, my daughter Elaine began to forge her path as a competitive child athlete in our soccer family. She transitioned from gymnastics to explore soccer, a sport that better matched her team-oriented personality. While there are differences in how competitive sports treat boys and girls, we strive to give Collin and Elaine equal guidance and opportunity to help them develop in sports, health, and life. Boys and girls must receive equitable and unbiased encouragement and support to achieve greatness both personally and athletically. We are taking Elaine’s soccer development as seriously as we have Collin’s.

In today's world, everyone wants things fast because there are so many opportunities and so little time. However, greatness can't be rushed because it requires work, time, and focus. There are no shortcuts to success. I reflect on the fifteen years of education and training I completed to become a doctor. I put in the work at four top-notch institutions over those years and stayed focused. After eleven years of medical practice, I cannot imagine delivering the excellent care that I do without having completed that education, training, and years of practice. We can inspire children and adults to become their best selves and unite them through sports, community, and a commitment to health.
